Peter Barker

Senior Consultant (Pharmacy Operations and Service Development)

Peter is a highly successful, dynamic and innovative problem solver with over 26 years of senior operational pharmacy retail experience. He was a founder member of the Assura Pharmacy Operations Team, delivering a highly self motivated and customer focused operational team with a passion for the delivery of outstanding yet practical strategic solutions. Peter is focused on providing clarity through inspirational and decisive leadership and proactive inclusive decision making.

Having obtained a Pharmacy Degree from Liverpool, Peter began his career at Boots The Chemist and qualified as a pharmacist in 1982. After initial management training he moved into the small group/independent sector to gain hands on management experience before forming his own pharmacy company in 1988. Over the next eleven years he built up a successful chain of community pharmacies before exiting at the end of 1999.

During 2001 he established a Harley-Davidson franchise in Chester & won a further franchise in the Preston area in 2002 before selling in 2004 to move back into pharmacy management and development. He joined Boots and became a specialist in turning around failing branches & re-organising the Care Home supply chain.

In 2005 he joined Andrew Murray at Assura Pharmacy to lead and develop the pharmacy operations team opening the first pharmacy in March 2006. He held several senior management positions within Assura Pharmacy and was a member of the senior executive team delivering business growth to over 35 pharmacies with a combined turnover exceeding £30million. In 2010 Peter joined APM Healthcare as the lead consultant advising pharmacy clients on operational improvements and services development to support pharmacy owners in maximising the performance of their pharmacy businesses.
